Roots of the Digital Soul
Part 1: Discovery and the First Connection
Lana is an artist and student in a modern, fast-paced city. She often feels lost and disconnected from the world around her. One evening, while browsing a small, eccentric shop, she finds a phone case engraved with the "Tree of Life." The shopkeeper, an elderly man with piercing eyes, tells her the case is “unique” and warns her that “it binds to your soul.”
That night, Lana notices the case slightly glowing. On her phone, she finds an unknown app named "Roots." When she opens it, the screen flickers, displaying the message: “The Tree of Life awaits you.”
Unsure what to make of it, Lana falls asleep with the case next to her phone, only to dream vividly of the lives of strangers.
The next day, as she checks her phone, the app has a “profile” of a woman she saw on the subway the previous day. Touching the woman’s profile, Lana is pulled into a vision, experiencing the woman’s memories and emotions. She learns of the woman’s struggles with loneliness and abandonment.
She decides to approach the woman the next day and offers simple kindness—a genuine smile, a small chat. This act of empathy causes the engraved tree on the case to grow a single leaf.
